"It's better not to know so much about what things mean or how they might be interpreted or you'll be too afraid to let things keep happening. Psychology destroys the mystery, this kind of magic quality. It can be reduced to certain neuroses or certain things, and since it is now named and defined, it's lost its mystery and the potential for a vast, infinite experience." -David Lynch

The story so far.
"Rest in Peace Brother Dime"
Artists' reactions to the passing of Dimebag
(click each separate link above)

This is absolutely disgusting. Honestly, my stomach gets sick when I picture how the whole scene might have looked. I can only imagine the state that Vinnie was in, watching his brother... ugh. Fucking absurd. Some mental case jumps a fence and kills several people for no reason. Events that happen out of the blue like this...scenarios that people never could have been prepared for...are absolutely amazing. Terrible. Helps you realize how fragile life is...how it can literally be stolen from you, without any justification, in mere seconds.

And it's at times like these when the only thing capable of getting mourners through is
FAITH. It's a horrible, tragic event, but somehow, in someway, it happened for a reason. Brings to mind a quote from La Strada, a film I watched this semester in Italian Cinema. Loose translation from Italian:

The Fool
: I am ignorant, but I read books. You won't believe it, everything is useful... this pebble for instance.
Gelsomina
: Which one?
The Fool
: Anyone. It is useful.
Gelsomina
: What for?
The Fool
: For... I don't know. If I knew I'd be the Almighty, who knows all. When you are born and when you die... Who knows? I don't know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. For if its useless, everything is useless. So are the stars!

Simply believing that every thing and every event has some positive purpose to it - even when it can't be identified or grasped - has helped me through countless trials and continues to do so on a daily basis. It erases regret. At the least, we can all agree that a life free of regret is much more pleasant than the alternative.

The semester is nearly through; just one more paper and one exam left to go. Next comes work at Swim Systems, then Christmas, followed by hardcore studying for the GRE - and then, school resumes.
Never a dull moment.

The debut record from
Thornley delivers some high-quality low-end alternative metal (that shouldn't sound like an oxymoron, but it does...ah well). Fans of Soundgarden, Sevendust, LoPro, and doubleDrive won't be disappointed. Very, very solid. Note: this review comes after having listened to the record for a few months now. The record easily maintains its initial appeal. Give it a listen.

Virgos Merlot and Mad at Gravity never should have broken up. Damn creative differences. The offshoot of Virgos Merlot, Virgos, sucked pretty bad...but hopefully,
Ghost in the Flesh will be able to create something respectable from the ashes of Mad at Gravity. At the very least, it's a cool name. Keep checking www.ghostintheflesh.com for the emergence of their site.

The Movie Box has a sweet trailer for
Batman Begins. It still looks like it's going to surpass any possible expectations...

Anyone seen anything directed by
Takeshi Miike? I downloaded Audition and Gozu, but have yet to watch them. They definitely look fucking crazy, though.

Each college has its own Facebook, but communication is not restricted to one's college - the site enables you to reestablish contact with friends from high school, middle school, and so on. There are some great online groups, too, such as "the Pork Chop Sandwich Institute," "Homestar Runners," and "Jeff Buckley = God." This site has no limits, and everyone who joins is amazed at how addicted he or she becomes. If you have a "ufl.edu" e-mail address (or some other e-mail account distributed by your college) you're qualified to join. Hit it up, and get ready to be "poked."

I hope to see everyone at some point during the break... - anyone have plans for New Years yet? Whatever we do, I know it'll be a better time than last year - reason being that asshole Andrew won't be with us. What a dick. He sure can play guitar, though... Anyway, let me know what's hot for the break. I miss you guys...more than Andrew misses his eye's previously-unassisted ability to function.
SEE you all soon...

Love,
AJ

ONLY ONE MORE DAY!!!

That's right...only one more day until serious alien ass-kicking hits the silver screen in one of the most highly anticipated films in the history of the cinema: ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR. Even if this movie winds up sucking, it will still be impossible for it to not kick ass. Yes, it is true that this movie was helmed by the director of Mortal Kombat Annihilation, but I'm going to have faith that the team that worked on this movie compensated for his shortcomings and, ultimately, that AVP will come to be known as the best Paul W.S. Anderson film ever made. I mean, the way I see it, you've got the two most bad-ass alien species ever created for the screen together in the same movie - at the very least, we can expect some incredible fight sequences. A few of us already know the plot, and it's not a bad one, so as long as the dialogue and acting aren't too corny (and they very well might be), we should be in for a rockin' good time.

Speaking of good times, Frank and I will be going to see the mighty Machine Head this Saturday night at the House of Blues. Should be pretty crazy... - thanks again for the ticket, homesnake.

Speaking of tickets, I've been unable to find the new edition of Predator, which comes with a ticket for AVP, for a reasonable price. Target was sold out, and elsewhere, it's $20.00. Gay.

Speaking of gay, TVs are stupid expensive. All I want is something that's no more than $250 with component inputs and progressive scan. Is that asking too much? If anyone knows of a set that fits those specs, please lemme know.

Speaking of letting me know, if anyone who reads this has an opinion on Silent Hill 2, lemme know. I'm seriously considering picking it up, for I own no horror-genre games for the X-Box.

Speaking of horror, I did pick up Doom 3 for the PC. Haven't played it yet, but once I get back to G-ville, I'm sure I'll be having successive heart-attacks in no time. Does everyone still love it?

Speaking of love, I love Laura :) You're amazing, and the new levels that we reach together in this relationship continue to surprise and enliven me. Thank you for everything...I love you more than I ever thought I could love at all.

So, to repeat: Tomorrow night is Alien Versus Predator. We will most likely be seeing it at Waterford Lakes sometime around 9 or 10. If you're interested, give me a call: 321-229-8718. See you there! AVP, BABY!

Updated the Flavors of the Month links. "Hopes and Fears" from Keane is one of the best records I've heard this year, while "Together We're Heavy" from The Polyphonic Spree is...well...pretty ridiculous. The album often feels like a soundtrack to Sesame Street, which can be uplifting at times, but is usually downright silly. Take this line, for example: "Hail to the sky, hail to the sky! It's time to watch the show, it's time to watch the show! The trees wanna' grow, the trees wanna' grow! Grow grow grow!" Tim DeLaughter's voice is a cross between the sounds of Pink Floyd and Counting Crows, which isn't bad - the problem with the band is that although it consists of 24 members, the compositions are extremely simplistic and similar to one another. You can hardly pick out 10 different sounds, nevermind 24. The choir sounds like little children - cute, but annoying in its excess. I listened to the album a couple times over and decided to change it out for Keane, and as soon as Keane started, it was like a breath of fresh air. Overall, TPS is an interesting novelty, while Keane is a mature, musical force. Travis, U2, Muse, and Radiohead each come to mind throughout the duration of "Hopes and Fears," but the band manages to stand on its own feet. Tracks like "Somewhere Only We Know" and "We Might As Well Be Strangers" completely suck you in and demand control of your emotions. Therein lies the album's strength - the lyrics and melodies go hand in hand and make for distinct moments of elation, contemplation, and somber reflection. Added bonus that results in near-instant credibility: they're Irish. Only $8.99 at Target. Buy it.

Melo's 21st birthday party commences this Saturday night - not sure if I'll be able to make it, though. My aunt's mother passed away last week, and the service is this weekend in Gainesville. I barely knew her, but I know my aunt's immediate family very well, so I may attend. Decisions, decisions... - shall I mourn with my family for a woman that I knew very little of, or shall I party it up with my friends for a woman that I know very well?

I'm not going to get into my thoughts on The Village - you already know that it disappointed the shit out of me. I can sum up my opinion with a few quotes from critics that are cited on the Rotten Tomatoes website:
"Every village needs an idiot - and M. Night Shyamalan is hoping it's you."
- this refers to people who were actually surprised by the not-so-surprising (and not at all satisfying) ending.
"The film has a strong, sometimes jolting musical score. But the song that will go through many viewers' minds is never sung in the movie. It's that old Peggy Lee standard, "Is That All There Is?""
- self-explanatory and completely true.
"I see a dead movie...Though it's designed as one of Shyamalan's trademark puzzlers, the only real surprise is how stilted and hokey it is."
- corny dialogue, tired story (The Truman Show, for example, used a similar concept and achieved a more effective result), too much space taken up by moments of nothingness.
"As a failure, The Village is certainly interesting, but a failure it stubbornly remains."
- I still find myself thinking about the film, and the afterthoughts sometimes bring up a desire for me to say "It wasn't that bad," but then I look at the big picture, remember how I felt during the film, and restate the fact that it was that bad.
Simply put, The Village could have been good if it had simply been the love story that it started out to be, but Shyamalan's inability to resist plot twists - this twist hardly shocking, significant, or even a true twist, since it is blatantly hinted at before the climax - distracts us with noise and nonsense, and irreparably severs any emotional attachment that the film had previously established with its audience. Shame on Shyamalan...shame shame shame.

Well, I suppose that critique was inevitable.

Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. One of the best films I've seen this year. Hilarious social commentary throughout. The fact that an asian and a south american were cast as the lead roles is interesting enough. The film does not disappoint in any way, and will join my collection of DVDs the day it is released. Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser M.D.) is unbelievable in this movie. Go see it right now. Oh, one more thing: "Vagina McGeinstein." Priceless.

That's all for now. Do what I told you. I hope to see everyone Saturday...
"Thank you, come again."

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 :::

Last night was a blast.

Frank, Juan, Will, Brian, Mandy, Melody, Chris and I went down to Pat O'Brien's at Citywalk to hang out, shoot the shit, and of course, drink.

And drink we did.

I don't even know how much money Frank wound up spending on alcohol, but I do know that Hurricanes are worth the dough - especially on 2-for-1 Tuesday nights.  I hadn't finished half of my first one before I started feeling tipsy.  Apparently, the mighty Hurricane consists of 4 shots of 151 and some special hurricane mix that is unknown to me...but Will told me that they sell the mix in stores, so rock on.

Pat O'Brien's is a pretty rad place, featuring two piano players and lots of people dressed in green.  Frank meant to make a joke by requesting Led Zeppelin, and to our amazement, they actually played "Stairway to Heaven!"  They tore that shit up, too...

SO.  By the end of the night, I had consumed two Hurricanes, a shot of JD (it had been a double, but I pussed out and Melody took the rest), and a fairly large cup of Bud Light from Hard Rock.  Doesn't sound like much, but trust me, those Hurricanes are deadly.  I'm still not sober.  No shit.  Best worst part about the night was that I had to face my mom when I got home.  I'm pretty sure she could tell that I was gone, but I think I faked semi-sobriety fairly well.  No slurring, cohesive sentences - she did make me walk a straight line, though, and although I managed it, it was the most difficult, confusing walk of my life.

I'm pretty sure that I had some whacked-out dreams, but I don't remember any of them.

In conclusion:
I have the best friends a guy could ask for
It's damn good to have Frank back
Pat O'Brien's is a great place to drink
I'm still not sober

In other news, we still have not received word regarding Warped Tour.  However, even if we are confirmed, I don't think we're gonna play, 'cuz Frank won't be playing with us.  The lame-ass has to work.  Frank's absence from the lineup would leave us with one, ONE guitar player.  That's not a good thing for a band that's used to playing with three guitars.  So, unless I suck it up and play guitar (which would still be pretty awful, as I haven't played the songs in years), I don't know how we're gonna pull it off.  Maybe we'll just get drunk before we play, make up a story about Frank and Mark running off together, and make sweet sweet noise.  Either way, we're still going to go to the show, and the current plan is to take the van and instruments to the fairgrounds early in the morning and tell the powers-that-be that we're scheduled to play.  This way, we'll still get in for free, and we'll be able to hang with the bands.  Punk rock, baby...

Picked up the new records from Keane and The Polyphonic Spree yesterday.  Keane was only $8.99 at Target, and so far, it's a great record.  The vocalist has true, actual singing ability, which is a nice change.  They still remind me of an upbeat Travis.  The Polyphonic Spree was $11.99, but it comes with a sweet DVD with an interview, music videos, and live performances, so it's more than worth the bread.  Haven't evaluated the album yet, but I'm very excited about it.  24 musicians!?!?  A harp player!?!?  How can you say no to that?

Big ups to Brian and Mandy for taking us all down to Citywalk and bringing us back.  Less than 1.5 years, BriBri, and you'll be swept up with the rest of us in the madness that is the Hurricane.  And Mandy - well, at least there's no age limit in g-ville.

The Village on Friday!  See you there!

If you haven't already, check out "Batman: Dead End."  It's a short film that's sure to captivate Batman and sci-fi fans everywhere.

We still haven't heard a yes or no for Warped Tour, so for now, we're assuming that we'll be playing.  If things go the same was as they did last year, we may not know until Wednesday night, or even Thursday morning.  Fat Harry needs to get off of his lazy ass and call us...

Also, Absent now has a site through "My Space" - www.myspace.com/absent1.  The link on this site has been updated with the new address, so click, and click often.

This Friday night = The Village.  Anyone interested in coming to see it should let Will or me know - the more of us in the theater, the less idiots there will be - you know, the ones who talk during the crucial moments and laugh at the wrong times.

Frank is back in town, and he has lots of hair, so watch out.

Next month's flavors will be up soon, and so far, it looks like "The Polyphonic Spree" and "Keane" will be two of them.  The Polyphonic Spree is made up of twenty-something musicians and they make the happiest music I've heard in my whole life, so if you're still stuck in the iLoveStaindButiHateMyselfAndYou'reKoRnyWahWah genre, this will probably sound like crap to you - ironically, it's probably the exact type of music that you need to hear.  The only comparison that comes to mind is an (even more) tripped-out, hippied-out Pink Floyd.  Keane reminds me of a more upbeat Travis, which is a very good thing.  Check 'em both out.

Picked up Hellboy today at Target for $15.99, and I suggest that you do the same, 'cuz Ron Perlman is a serious badass, Selma Blair is pretty hot, and monsters with dreds are awesome.

Did anyone ever actually see "The Whole Ten Yards?"  Is it as terrible as critics made it out to be?

...and a vote:  Should I leave my warm, comfortable world that is my Blog and endeavor to evaluate the new, exciting world that is My Space?

I'll leave you with a riddle:  If someone says to you "Everything I tell you is a lie," is he lying, or telling the truth?"

Oh...and I cannot stand Dashboard Confessional.  It makes me gag...literally.

Glad to see the wealth of new posts, Jen - keep 'em coming!  - only...less QAF, please  :)

Lostprophets Wednesday night at Hard Rock!!!  AHOL:UJSL:DHGL:USEL:THOPWEJF!

Sevendust rocked the House of Blues apart last week.  That band has forever secured its place in my list of top 5 bands of all time.

FRANK'S COMING HOME!  Come Monday, our precious Francis will be back in Winter Springs, Florida.  I cannot wait... - it's great to have you back, buddy.

Warped Tour next week!?  - yes, it's next week...but will Absent take hold of the local stage once again?  YES!  - i think.  I'll get back to you once Fat Harry gets back to us.  Regardless, everyone should try to make it out next Thursday.  The lineup of bands is freakin' great, and it promises to be a memorable day of fun in the sun, as it has always been.  See you there!

Napoleon Dynamite was freakin' hilarious... - not quite as funny as I had hoped, but it's moments were amazing.  A must own, for sure.  I, Robot is only second to Spider Man 2 in the running for the summer movie of 2004.  Of course, I have yet to see Alien Versus Predator.  Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps...

Aight, gotta be at work by 7, so it's lights out for AJ.

Added "Flavors of the Month" and "Click Now" to the column on the left - Atreyu, The Killers, and Oceansize are a few new bands that have captured my interest - and my wallet - this month, so click on the logos and sample some tunes. Atreyu will kick your ass, then heal the wounds with sweet sweet vocals; The Killers will bring you straight back to the 80s with New Order/Depeche Mode stylings; Oceansize will trip you out with their 3-guitar assault and Tool/Radiohead-esque prog-rock sensibility. "Click Now" features opportunities that you all MUST take advantage of. This time around, you should go download the digital EP from one of the most promising bands I've heard in quite some time, Moments In Grace. "Stratus" and "Curtain Call" are absolute gems. Watch our for the debut LP in stores August 17th.

Brian, Mandy, Juan and I will be rocking our asses off to Sevendust and Skindred tonight at the House of Blues. Only a few more hours until I grovel at the feet of two of nu-metal's most talented vocalists - both of whom happen to be black. Maybe that's where I'm lacking... - anyway, I have no doubt that Benji will be crazy on-stage, but since Lajon's haircut, I'm a little skeptical...(half-kidding...)

So, Francis, you've decided to come back to us? Well, you know that every one of us will welcome you back with arms (and asscheeks) wide-open, and we're all proud of your courage and accomplishments. However, a certain quote in your blog stood out for me - something along the lines of "it is in this time of doubt that I decide to act." I don't doubt that you've thought everything through thousands of times and are continuing to do so, and I know that I have no "room to talk" when it comes to a topic like this one... - I just think back to the thoughts and feelings that originally moved you to New York, and I wonder how long it might take for them to return after you move back here. I support you one-hundred percent on whatever decision you make, homesnake - just make the right one, or I'll kill you. In the event that you arrive on July 27th, you can count on me to be waiting at the airport, holding a sign that will read "Welcome home, Kydd." (remember that shit!?) Love you, Frank...

"I, Robot" comes out tomorrow night, as I'm sure you're all aware - I'm assembling a team to enjoy and evaluate it, so let me know if you're interested in joining us. We'll be going to see it around 8 or 9 tomorrow night, preceeded by dinner at an as-of-yet-undecided location. Call Will or myself if you'd like to come...the more, the merrier...but we need to buy tickets before it sells out, so hurry that ass up.

Did you check out Atreyu yet!? CLICK THAT LINK, ASSHOLE! Their new record, "The Curse," is only 9.99 at FYE, so take advantage. Now.

"And I'll never need to see the sun again - there's enough light in your eyes to light up all the world. So take me, take me away...kill me slowly - I'll never be the same."

Thursday, June 10, 2004 :::

What's my summer consisted of since I've returned from BFE, aka Iowa? Working between 9 and 12 hours each day, Monday through Friday, every week, at Swim Systems.
...And that's it.
In summers past, I would hang out with the guys nearly everyday after work, but it seems that those times are fading fast. Everyone's either moved away or is preoccupied with work and/or school. And that's fine, 'cuz we can't be kids forever...but IS that fine? I miss the way things were. It needs to be resurrected - at least to a degree that will provoke a comforting sense of nostalgia. Remember: percussion practice...WiKiD practice...Entity practice...Absent practice...watching porn instead of Absent practice...performances...going to shows at HOB and Hard Rock Live...random visits to Downtown Disney and Citywalk...eating at Anthonys...watching horrible movies in what used to be Will's room...making prank calls with the phones at the mall... - I guess it's just that now, enough time has passed to have me realize that certain memories are incapable of reenactment. Frank, it's awesome that things seem to finally be coming together for you, but honestly, I wish you were here. Same sorta thing goes for Brian - I'm stoked that you're being schooled in an area of work that enthuses you, but I want to jam with you! It seems that in one way or another, each one of us is busier than he/she used to be...and in our society (even our world, perhaps), this phenomenon is a part of life - all I'm saying is that there are several moments throughout my day when I wish that it wasn't. Guys, we need to hang out. Soon. Let's make it happen.

My actual 21st birthday is six days from today. This coming Wednesday, the Man will deem me worthy of hanging out with Mr. Cohol in public. Also, it is the final particularly exciting birthday that will occur for the rest of my existence - 40 is the only other one that stands out, and history doesn't hold that one to be especially happy. I believe Will is planning a little something...and I'd love for you to help celebrate with us...so contact him and we'll do it up.

In other news, www.themoviebox.net has become my favorite movie site. The newest trailers and updates can be found here before any other sites get ahold of 'em. I've added a link in place of the old IMDB link, so be sure to click every so often to see what's new in Hollywood (and the indie scene, actually).

New Found Glory's "Catalyst" is a ROCKIN' album - my favorite from them thus far. Gets better each time I listen, whereas NFG's previous albums quickly became worn out. Pick up Catalyst for $9.99 at Best Buy - it's a great record for summer fun.

The new Harry Potter is the best Potter yet...but it brought me to the conclusion that overall, I'm just not a big Harry Potter fan. Don't get me wrong - the movies are done well enough...but there are too few moments in the plots where I go "whoa;" nothing really strikes me. Kill Bill (the full movie) struck me every 5 minutes or less, and continues to do so. GOD I love that movie.

SAVED! comes out tomorrow, and looks damn good, too. If you haven't seen a preview yet, check out The Movie Box link at the top of my blog and find it from there. I'll be out of town this weekend, but I'd love to see it when I get back. Anyone interested?
Also out in theaters will be Napoleon Dynamite, which looks hilarious. Again, check out The Movie Box. I don't think it'll be playing nearby until after a few more weeks, but I MUST see it. The lead reminds me so much of John Woodward...and if you know John, that means that the movie is gonna be a riot.
Did you know that there's a documentary about Scrabble out in theaters? Well, there is - Word Wars - but it's not playing anywhere around here. Damned limited releases... - Frank, you're one lucky guy - I hope you're taking advantage of the opportunity to see these movies that the rest of us must wait until DVD for.
Anyway, go to The Movie Box and CHECK OUT THE PREVIEWS.

That's enough to chew on for now, though it seems that no one really visits here anymore...but that's okay. I never started this thing to get comments...but, of course, it's always nice to hear from whoever takes the time to read.
Babe - I hope you have a great time this weekend - wish I could share the sunsets with you, but know that while you're experiencing them, I'm thinking of you, looking forward to the next time we're together. I love and miss you very much...

Hope to see everyone soon! Ci vediamo!

AND NOW...THE MOST ANTICIPATED POST OF THE YEAR...

while reading, listen to "My Sundown" by Jimmy Eat World to acheive the desired effect

I'm going to start at the end. Tomorrow morning, I'm leaving for Nashville, Tennessee, where I'll be spending one week in intensive sales school training with the Southwestern Company. Afterwards, I'll be driving RedAndBlackIndianAttack (my Blazer) all the way up to Minneapolis, Minnesota to sell books, door to door, for thirteen weeks. (UPDATE - hours after writing this blog entry, I went to our last Southwestern meeting before departure and, to my suprise and dismay, I discovered that as of this moment, Minnesota is a probability - other possible sales locations are Iowa and Alabama. This is absurd - all I can do is laugh. Supposedly, I'll know my definite state on Sunday. Cross your fingers for Minnesota!) My exact housing is, as of yet, unknown, but I'll write or find a way to post when I find out where I'll be. I'm getting paid on commission, and judging by the average profit of first-year Southwestern dealers, I should be coming home with a nice, fat check. I'd better, cuz I'll be working fourteen hours a day, six days a week. Practically running my own business, with my own sales locale and everything. Undoubtedly, this summer will push me harder than I've ever been pushed before, but I know that the end results and rewards will justify the means. I'm nervous, but extremely excited - you know that I love to travel, and I'll be meeting hundreds, possibly thousands of new people. Of course, the hardest part about the whole thing is leaving everyone behind, knowing that I'll be missing out on several fun-filled activities with the o-town and g-ville crews...but know that I'll do my best to keep in touch, and I'll be hoping that you do the same. I'll have my cell phone with me, with nationwide longdistance and free incoming, but for free correspondance on your part, you can e-mail me or IM me and I'll be able to check it all through my sweet-ass new Nextel Motorola i730. For those of you who have forgotten: munkys4u@ufl.edu and AJmunky11. So, that's an extremely brief summary of what I'll be doing over the summer...I'll be missing everyone like crazy, and REST ASSURED, when I return, we're going to through the sickest post-21st birthday party that Gainesville has ever seen!

Various blips:

Juan, buddy, it seems to me that you've gotten yourself into quite a mess as of late. I hope you manage to untangle yourself and put everything into perspective. Remember your morals, put yourself in the shoes of those who are also directly involved, and take things slowly. Of course, that's just my advice... - love you, freak...

Frank, it sounds like the NY lifestyle is a pretty crazy rollercoaster. Just follow your heart, like we all know you will, and you'll ride it out in true Frizank style. Hopefully, a miracle will greet us in the fall and we'll somehow be able to visit each other. Enjoy all the movies, music, and shows that I'll be missing, asshole...

Will and Brian, you guys have always shown me that our friendship would have thrived even if we hadn't been born into the same family. We share a bond that is exclusively ours, and I can't wait to get back and continue to live it up. Have an awesome summer, Will, and keep kickin' ass at the FS, Brian. You're absolutely right - positivity is a must, and I'll remember your words over the summer. B-to-the-R-to-the-O-T-Z...

Drew, I know that there's only a miniscule chance that you'll read this, but I wanted to let you know that you're still the perfect roomie. Our fourth and (possibly) final year together is going to be crazy! CRAZY, I TELL YOU! Seriously, though, I love you, and our friendship is "priceless" to me. See you in August...

To the rest of the crew - enjoy the summer and anticipate my return, 'cuz I'll be bringing a severe party attitude back with me!

...and to Laura. You've been absolutely incredible these past few weeks, and you're always an inspiration to me. Your lust for life, your selflessness, and your love for me have filled my heart and soul with energy and vitality that has proven invaluable. I wouldn't trade our moments together for anything. I'll miss you this summer, and though we'll be far apart, love spans all distances. You're a beautiful, beautiful person - NEVER say anything to the contrary. I'll be back before you know it :) Thank you for everything...I love you...

Well, I guess I'll leave it at that. I trust that everyone will have a kick-ass summer, and I hope to hear from each of you throughout it. Love you guys...wish me luck! Ci vediamo!

i see it around me
i see it in everything:
i could be so much more than this

said my goodbyes
this is my sundown
i'm going to be so much more than this

with one hand high, you'll show them your progress
you'll take your time
but no one cares

i need you to show me the way from crazy
i want to be so much more than this

with one hand high, you'll show them your progress
you'll take your time
but no one cares

good good bye
lovely time
good good bye
tinsel shine
good good bye
i'll be fine
good good bye
good good night

His name: Damien Rice
His album: O
His kindred spirits: Norah Jones, Jeff Buckley, Jack Johnson, David Grey, etc.

This guy...is great. Here's a link to some live video from a studio: CLICK HERE. Please please please check out his music...it's anything but ordinary. If you like what you see/hear, rest assured that you'll love the whole cd.

Also picked up the new Lostprophets and Incubus records. Diggin' the new lp...pun intended - it definitely reminds me of Linkin Park...but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This sophomore effort is a huge improvement over the debut album, and I anticipate it to cause the lostprophets to be the next big thing. The new Incubus may be my favorite of all the Incubus records - at this stage of my life, I'd be more inclined to want to listen to this latest style of theirs than any of their previous ones. The DVD that comes with the limited edition A Crow Left of the Murder is pretty sweet, featuring a hilarious dramatization of Brandon injuring his leg.

School is old.

I shall be in town this weekend for the Tooth and Nail Tour Friday night at the Social. Hopefully, I will have enough time to lay down my vocals for the Absent demo on Saturday, but I'm not going to hold my breath. You know what they say about "best laid plans..."

This past weekend was great fun...Laura had a blast, and hopefully, the memory of her 21st birthday party will always stand out for her. Much booty shaking, quality time spent with the best of friends, and, of course, the seemingly inescapable drama. Tsk tsk, Frank. Overall, however, I think everyone enjoyed themselves. If you drank and haven't paid Will yet, GET IT DONE!

Hope your recovery is going well, Juangui...

I'm dragging ass all over the place. Time to put the "un" in "unconscious." Buonanotte...

As I wait for my 4:00 class to roll around:

Go see The Last Samurai. Now. I want to talk to you about it. This means YOU. My next post will not spare anyone, so if you haven't seen it yet, go asap.

School's back in session...can't really say that I'm excited about it. I finished my final assignment from the Fall semester this past Saturday, so I've practically had two days of real, stress-free vacation. Definitely could have used another week...but whatever. I'm taking 16 credit hours at the moment, but after tomorrow, I should be down to 13. 2 English courses (Psychological Approach to Writing, European Cinema), Geography (which I'm stoked about, cuz the professor is from England and completely captures my attention - great guy), and Human Growth and Development. Looks like I'll be sticking with an English Major (with Film and Media Studies tracking), though I still might add an Education minor...maybe. I dunno...not sure if I could handle classrooms full of punk-ass adolescents. Yeah, there's always elementree/grade school, but I don't think the subject matter would be engaging enough for me. blah blah blah...

Frank, update your LJ. You're practically my only inspiration to keep this thing going. Brian, Will - if you'd update more often with substantial posts, the world would be a better place. Juan - I've just about given up on you. Mandy - keep up the good work. Jenn - it's time for the monthly update.

Got X2, Punch Drunk Love, and Tommy Boy on dvd. 3 great flicks...can't wait to revisit Tommy Boy. It's been too long... "Housekeeping - you want me jerk you off?"

Mindless Self Indulgence may very well be the best band of our time. Seriously. Frank, if I give you any excuses when they come back to town, knock my ass out and drag me to the show.

Laura should definitely take Geography with me. Definitely. Speaking of Laura...I'm hesitant to do this - for my own sake - but what the hell. I'm gonna take a poll. Try not to think too much about this one - just answer: Who's cooler: Laura, or Alan? My money's on TROGDOR!!!!!!! Place your bets...

tick tock tick tock tick tock

What's the deal with the Britney Spears marriage/anullment? Madness... - was she drunk? Publicity stunt? Was Madonna jealous? Would anyone really have had a problem continuing to masturbate to thoughts of Britney if he (or she) knew that Britney was married?

M14

Florida weather pisses me off. Yesterday's weather led me to believe that I'd be fine wearing my excellent Homestar Runner shirt with shorts today...and now, I'm freezing my ass off. My Geography class better help me understand and accept Florida's behavior, or else, it's on. I'll sick the HomestArmy on its ass.

Just took a little tour of Smathers Library. Kinda cool... - there's a small exhibition upstairs that displays highlights from the history of UF. Reading publications and seeing objects from 50 - 100 - 150 years ago is insane when I consider the fact that I'm in the same place from which they all came from. One article reminded me of the fact that approximately 40 years ago, blacks weren't allowed in several establishments here. 40 years ago. Crazy.

For those that don't already know: Brock's current band, Hand to Hand, kicks serious ass. I have no doubt that they'll be signed by 2005. Check out their website and keep an eye open for new mp3s. I guarantee that even if it's not your style, you'll still be impressed.

Less than an hour ago, I had 5 chicken tenders, a BK Big Fish, and a medium fry. I'm starving again. Someone, please...permanently sedate my metabolism.

The new Lost Prophets cd is going to destroy the ground you stand on. February 3rd. Be ready.

When the hell is Machine Head going to release Through the Ashes of Empires in the US? FUCK!

Kids: don't forget about the Tooth and Nail tour, featuring Anberlin, Further Seems Forever, Watashi Wa, Emery, and one of the shittiest bands I've ever heard, mewithoutyou - I plan to rock out H20-style to those guys. You with me, Will? February 6th. $10. The Social. Show starts at 5:30. Be there.

Don't have much else to say, but it's too damn cold to go outside until I have to...Sooooo...

If I could have dinner with anyone - alive or dead - I'd choose alive.

tick tock tick tock tick tock

Actually, I think I'll end this entry and *GASP* start reading The Sirens of Titan. Stay warm...
